military strategist is wonderful to me! The artist was not actually there freezing his “nanunanu’s off” so how was he able to depict the setting with accuracy. Ole George did his job under extreme weather conditions, with ill clothed men, and under fed soldiers who believed in their leader and their country’s cause. Not many men nowadays would put up with walking or marching in the snow leaving trails of blood tindged snowy foot prints for the cause!
Ole George didn’t loose a single man, cannon, or horse on this daring attack. So who cares that the lighting may be wrong, or the boats were depicted shorter than 40-60 feet. The painting depicted a wonderful event that actually occurred in our country’s youngest years.

The flag that would have been used at the time of the attack had the British Union Jack in the canton along with the 13 stripes.

Actually, he did stand…and so did his men. They didn’t cross in a “tiny, rocking boat.” They crossed in large barge-like boats which didn’t have seats.

I make 18th century style wigs and talk about Washington and his lack of wig wearing everyday. His hair would have been styled and powdered for military action.

It’s not meant to be a true-to-life photograph!

That much is obvious to any student of art and literature, but then why bother writing such a pointless article? Ah, yes! Because modernist, anti-American attacks are quite en vogue with imbeciles who seek any opportunity to bite at the heels of American Exceptionalism. Sad.
